Wantage won the toss and decided to put Steventon in to bat.

Opening the bowling were Duncan “Long Dog” Wooloff and Ryan “Pippin” Martin, some early wickets for Pippin dismissed the top order, including a cracking gully catch by the older, gingerer, Zimbo Barry. Catches not quite sticking cost Long Dog a couple of wickets but still finished up with decent figures, one over letting them down, some interesting shots lets say. Replacing the openers were Oliver Taylor and Chaz Boshell, 5 quick wickets between them took the innings away from Steventon. Stewart “Danger Angel” Bulpitt came on to finish up the tail taking two wickets from his final two balls, hat-trick field next week skipper…

Overs Mdns Runs Wkts
Ryan Martin 8 1 28 3
Duncan Wooloff 6 0 28 0
Oliver Taylor 6 2 15 3
Chaz Boshell 6 2 13 2
Stewart Bulpitt 2.3 1 1 2

Setting us 86 to chase the two openers were sent out for 5 overs before tea, who’s idea was that? So at one was me (Colin “Pod” Mercer) partnered with Oliver Taylor at 2. Olly chased a leg side wide and top edged to the keeper, bringing Barry “Circus” Martin to the crease. At tea we were around 20-1, good tea – thanks Mumma Wooloff. After tea Circus was dismissed by a nifty catch by the keeper, which brought Nick Burton to the crease who wasted no time in smashing the bowler back over his head. Which rubbed off on me as I hit some boundaries (oh yes!), including a six over backwards square.

1 Colin Mercer Not Out 33
2 Oliver Taylor Caught 1
3 Barry Martin Caught 25
4 Nick Burton Not Out 12

After 17 overs we had chased down the required total for 2 wickets, earning us the full 30 pts. Top of the league lala la lala.
